The military parade marking the 80th anniversary of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War was presided over by President of the Russian Federation and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces Vladimir Putin. At the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, paid an official visit to the Russian Federation and attended the military parade.

In his speech at the parade, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the sacrifices and bloodshed that the Soviet people shed to fight fascism in the Great Patriotic War; and declared a minute of silence for those who fell in the war. Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized, “Glory to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War,” thousands of soldiers shouted “Ura.” This was followed by a cannon salute to the Russian national anthem.
At the head of the parade was General Salyukov's car, followed by the cadets of the Moscow Military Music Academy and the Flag Team. The ceremony also included the delegation representing the Soviet Red Army, carrying flags, small arms and military equipment from the Great Patriotic War. Thirteen foreign military delegations, including the Vietnam People's Army delegation, marched past the podium before arriving at the formations of the Military Academies and the branches and services of the Russian Armed Forces.
Leading the motorized vehicle block are the T-34-85 medium tank and the Su-100 self-propelled gun, the outstanding weapons of the Soviet Red Army during the Great Patriotic War. The aerial parade was relatively small, with 15 aircraft.
